Diabetes Mellitus Type 2

Diabetes mellitus type 2 is a common form of diabetes which describes the metabolic disorder inside the human body. It mainly occurs when the body cannot able to use glucose normally. Glucose is the major cause of energy for the entire cells in the human body. Insulin is a hormone which reduces blood glucose level in the human body.

Formula of Insulin Dosage Level:

DiabetesMellitus Type II Insulin Level = [(weight-5)*2]*fbg / (height*factor)-height

  • fbg = Fasting Blood Glucose
  • Factor For Male: 14.3
  • Factor For Female: 13.2

Example to calculate Insulin Dosage Level:

A person weighs 65 kg, his height is 150m and his fasting blood glucose level is 50mmol/L. Calculate the total number of insulin units needed each day for that person.

  • Weight = 65 kg
  • Height = 150m
  • Fasting Blood Glucose (FBG) level = 50mmol/L

Solution:

Let us find out the diabetes mellitus type 2 level of a person from the given values. Substitute the values in the formula,

Initial dose =

= [(weight-5)*2]*fbg / (height*factor)-height
= [[(65-5)*2]*50 / (150*14.3)]-150
= [(120*50) / 2145] -150
= (2.797 - 150)
= '-147.203'

Hence, the number of insulin units required for the person is -147.203 IU/day.
