Face Shape Detection Based on Ratios

Formula
\[ \text{Face length to width ratio:}\\ \text{Ratio}_1 = \frac{L}{C}\\[1em] \text{Jawline and cheekbone comparison:}\\ \text{Ratio}_2 = \frac{J}{C} \]

There is no single formula — the shape is determined by comparing proportions. The calculator typically uses:

  • Forehead width (F)
  • Cheekbone width (C)
  • Jawline width (J)
  • Face length (L)

Interpretation logic (simplified rules):

  • Oval: Ratio₁ > 1.5, jaw slightly narrower than forehead
  • Round: Ratio₁ ≈ 1, soft jawline
  • Square: Ratio₁ ≈ 1, angular jawline
  • Heart: Wide forehead, narrow jawline
  • Diamond: Narrow forehead and jawline, wide cheekbones

Face Shape – Calculation Example

Example:

  • Face length = 18 cm
  • Cheekbone width = 13 cm
  • Jawline = 11 cm
  1. $$\text{Ratio}_1 = \frac{18}{13} ≈ 1.38$$
  2. $$\text{Ratio}_2 = \frac{11}{13} ≈ 0.85$$

Interpretation: Length > width, jaw < cheekbones ⇒ Oval face

Face shape affects how accessories, makeup, and hairstyles look on you. Common uses of knowing your face shape include:

Face shapes:
