Molecular Mass Calculator (GMV Law)
This calculator helps you determine the molecular mass of a gas using the GMV Law. It’s especially useful in chemistry for comparing gas densities and estimating molecular weights. Simply enter the density of the gas and the density of hydrogen, and the calculator will compute the vapor density and molecular mass.

Molecular Mass Using GMV Law Formula
Where vapor density is a relative measure comparing the density of any gas to that of hydrogen. The molecular mass is calculated as twice the vapor density according to the GMV (Gram-Molecular Volume) law.
The GMV Law is commonly used in experimental chemistry to estimate the molecular mass of unknown gases. Since hydrogen has the smallest molecular weight, it serves as a reference for comparison. By measuring the density of a gas and dividing it by the density of hydrogen, we obtain the vapor density. Multiplying this value by 2 gives the approximate molecular mass of the gas. This method is especially helpful in laboratory settings where quick estimations are needed.
