Cockcroft Gault
Cockcroft Gault equation is used to estimate the creatinine clearance rate that is used to test the kidney functioning. The equation was introduced by Cockcroft and Gault and uses serum creatinine, weight and age of the patient. If it is for female, a constant 0.85 is multiplied with the result. Based on the equation, it is estimated that a women will have 15 % lower creatinine clearance rate than man with the same serum creatinine.
Estimate Creatinine Clearance Rate
Cockcroft Gault's Formula :
Creatinine Clearance Value ( Male ) = ( ( 140 - age ) ( weight kg ) / ( 72 X Scr ) )
Creatinine Clearance Value ( Female )= 0.85 * ( ( 140 - age ) ( weight kg ) / ( 72 X Scr ) )
- Scr = Serum creatinine
Example
A 30 year man weighing 50 kgs, having a serum creatinine of 10 mg / dl what is Creatinine Clearance Value?
Creatinine Clearance Value
= (140 - 30 ) * 50 / 72 * 10
= 110 * 5 / 72
=7.64 ml / min
