Nth Root Calculator

This calculator finds the nth root of any positive real number. It’s useful in algebra, geometry, and applied sciences for simplifying expressions, solving equations, and analyzing exponential growth and decay.

Nth Root Solver

Input Fields
A
Enter the number you want to extract the root from
N
Enter the root degree (e.g. 2 for square root, 3 for cube root)
If enabled, the result will update automatically when you change any value.

Nth Root Formula

Formula
$$\sqrt[n]{x} = x^{\frac{1}{n}} $$

Where:

  • $$x$$ is the number
  • $$n$$ is the degree of the root
  • $$\sqrt[n]{x}$$ is the $$nth$$ root of $$x$$, or the number that when raised to the $$nth$$ power equals $$x$$

Nth Root – Calculation Example

Find the 4th root of 81:

$$\sqrt[4]{81} = 81^{\frac{1}{4}} = 3$$

Because:

$$3^4 = 81$$

The $$nth$$ root operation generalizes square and cube roots to any integer degree. It is used in mathematics, physics, and computer science. This calculator makes it easy to find exact or decimal approximations of any root.
