Crude Protein Calculator

This Crude Protein Calculator helps determine the total protein content in a sample using the micro Kjeldahl distillation method. It is widely used in food, feed, and agricultural industries to estimate the nitrogen content, including from both protein and non-protein sources, and convert it into crude protein. Simply input the blank and actual titre values, NaOH normality, and sample weight to get accurate protein percentage results.

Crude Protein Calculator

Input Fields
Volume of NaOH used in blank titration
Volume of NaOH used for the sample
Concentration of NaOH solution
Weight of the feed sample
If enabled, the result will update automatically when you change any value.

Crude Protein Percentage Formula

Formula
$$\text{Crude Protein (\%)} = \frac{(T – B) \times N \times 1.4007}{W}$$

Where:

  • $$T$$ = Titre value (mL)
  • $$B$$ = Blank titre value (mL)
  • $$N$$ = Normality of NaOH
  • $$W$$ = Weight of the sample in grams
  • 1.4007 is the nitrogen to protein conversion factor

The Kjeldahl method is a standard lab procedure for quantifying nitrogen content in organic compounds. This calculator simplifies the process by calculating the crude protein percentage from laboratory data. It is especially useful in nutritional analysis of animal feed, grains, and other food products. The result gives an estimate of the total protein present, including both true proteins and non-protein nitrogen compounds.
