Antiscalant Dosing Calculator

Use this calculator to determine the appropriate amount of antiscalant needed for a reverse osmosis (RO) system. It's essential for plant operators, engineers, and technicians to ensure optimal performance, prevent scaling, and extend membrane life. Input your system parameters and get accurate dosing rates in mL/min, gallons/day, and total weight.

Antiscalant Dosing Formula

Formula
$$\text{Antiscalant Usage (mL/min)} = \frac{\text{System Flow (L/min)} \times \text{Dose (ppm)}}{\text{Antiscalant Concentration (\%)} \times 10}$$

Where:

  • System Flow is the feed flow rate.
  • Dose is the required antiscalant concentration in ppm.
  • Antiscalant Concentration is the solution percentage in the dosing tank.

Antiscalants are essential in reverse osmosis (RO) systems to prevent scaling caused by calcium, magnesium, silica, and other dissolved salts. This calculator estimates the precise amount of antiscalant to be dosed based on the system’s feed flow, required concentration (ppm), tank solution strength (%), and antiscalant density (g/mL).

It supports multiple unit inputs (L/hr, gpm, gal, %, ppm) and outputs results in:

  • mL/min (dosing pump rate),
  • gallons/day (GPD), and
  • weight in lbs to be added.

This tool helps optimize chemical usage, prevent membrane fouling, and ensure efficient, cost-effective RO system operation.
