Body Surface Area (BSA) Calculator

Use this BSA Calculator to estimate your Body Surface Area — a key metric in medical dosing, nutritional needs, and fluid management. Based on your height and weight, the calculator applies standard formulas to give results in square meters (m²). Widely used in clinical practice, oncology, and critical care.

Mosteller Formula for BSA

Formula
$$\text{BSA} = \sqrt{ \frac{\text{Height (cm)} \times \text{Weight (kg)}}{3600} }$$

Other commonly used formulas include Du Bois and Haycock formulas.

Body Surface Area – Calculation Example

Example:

  • Height = 170 cm
  • Weight = 65 kg
  1. $$\text{BSA} = \sqrt{ \frac{170 \times 65}{3600} } = \sqrt{3.069} \approx 1.75 \, \text{m}^2$$

So, BSA ≈ 1.75 m²

Body Surface Area (BSA) is a calculated value that represents the total surface area of the human body. It is a better indicator than weight alone for medical applications such as:

  • Chemotherapy dosage
  • Pediatric drug dosing
  • Renal function adjustment
  • Fluid replacement in burns

Most accurate BSA estimates come from using height (cm) and weight (kg) in the formula. While various formulas exist (Du Bois, Haycock, Gehan and George), the Mosteller formula is commonly used due to its simplicity and clinical reliability.
