Heart Rate-Based Calorie Burn Formula

Formula
$$\text{Calories (Male)} = \left( \frac{-55.0969 + (0.6309 \cdot HR) + (0.1988 \cdot W) + (0.2017 \cdot A)}{4.184} \right) \cdot 60 \cdot T \\[10pt] \text{Calories (Female)} = \left( \frac{-20.4022 + (0.4472 \cdot HR) – (0.1263 \cdot W) + (0.074 \cdot A)}{4.184} \right) \cdot 60 \cdot T$$

Where:

  • $$HR$$ = Heart Rate (beats per minute)
  • $$W$$ = Weight (kg)
  • $$A$$ = Age (years)
  • $$T$$ = Time (in hours)

Calorie burn varies depending on exercise intensity, personal physiology, and heart rate. This calculator uses gender-specific formulas that incorporate your heart rate, age, weight, and exercise duration to provide a more accurate estimate of energy expenditure. It’s ideal for fitness tracking, weight loss planning, and personalized workouts. The formulas are based on research by the American College of Sports Medicine.

I’m a 64-year-old male that weighs 210 pounds. I did a workout for 2 hours and 40 minutes @ an average heart rate of 138 bpm.
Your calculator says I burned 2440 calories.
The formula you provided calculates me as burning 3312.585086 calories.

    I suspect neither is correct.
