Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Calculator

This calculator estimates your Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) — the number of calories your body needs at rest to maintain vital functions like breathing, circulation, and cell production. It's based on weight, height, age, and gender using the Mifflin-St Jeor equation.

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) Formula

Formula
$$\text{RMR (Men)} = 10 \cdot W + 6.25 \cdot H – 5 \cdot A + 5 \\[10pt] \text{RMR (Women)} = 10 \cdot W + 6.25 \cdot H – 5 \cdot A – 161$$

Where:

  • $$W$$ = Weight in kg
  • $$H$$ = Height in cm
  • $$A$$ = Age in years

Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) represents the calories your body uses at rest and is crucial for planning diets, fitness goals, and weight management strategies. It’s slightly different from BMR but often calculated using the same Mifflin-St Jeor formula. RMR is the foundation for determining total daily energy expenditure (TDEE) when physical activity levels are added.
