BEE + TEE Calculation Formula

Formula
\[ \text{For men:} \\ \text{BEE} = 66.5 + (13.75 \times \text{Weight}) + (5.003 \times \text{Height}) – (6.75 \times \text{Age})\\[1em] \text{For women:} \\ \text{BEE} = 655.1 + (9.563 \times \text{Weight}) + (1.850 \times \text{Height}) – (4.676 \times \text{Age})\\[1em] \text{Total Energy Expenditure:} \\ \text{TEE} = \text{BEE} \times \text{Activity Factor} \times \text{Stress Factor} \times \text{Temperature Factor} \]

Explanation:

  • Activity Factor: 1.2 (bed rest) to 2.0+ (very active)
  • Stress Factor: 1.0–2.0 (e.g., 1.1 for minor surgery, 1.6 for sepsis)
  • Temperature Factor: 1.0–1.2 depending on fever or cold exposure

TEE accounts for energy used beyond resting metabolism and helps plan proper nutrition for healing or performance.

This calculator is often used in clinical and sports settings to determine total caloric needs under specific conditions such as injury, fever, or physical exertion. By factoring in stress and environmental influences, it provides a more accurate measure of your daily energy requirements. It’s valuable for dietitians, athletes, and recovery patients.
